i shall not promise you forever

--- he sent me this poem...at wala akong naging reaksyon kundi ang tumingin sa langit, ngumiti at bumuntong hininga ...

i know i read this poem somewhere before, but to actually have someone dedicate it to me -- sigh..flattering.. inisip ko tuloy, ano kaya kung sya talaga mismo yung gumawa ng poem at alam mong ikaw ang naging inspirasyon nya para mabuo ang tulang ito (hindi naman masyadong mahaba ang buhok ko noh??!! hahaha), but whatever its worth, i am really thankful to him for making me smile again. 

 

i shall not promise you forever, because forever is too short a time for our love.

so i shall but promise to love you each day and every year to come.

 

i shall not expect of you to be always gentle and loving. 

i shall not demand that you love me all the time.

there shall always be forks on the road of life

and i shall not expect you to choose my road.

 

if you should find yourself in love with someone you think is far worthy than me,

i shall be forgiving of you and be grateful that somehow you loved me.

but please do not allow your thoughts to linger on such things

for i shall strive with all the power within me

to be as loving and understanding and kind as you expect me to be.

please don’t expect too much of me.

i may not give you anything everyday

but with everything i give goes all the love i could offer.

 

let your thoughts dwell upon the happy times we’ve spent together

and let these thoughts dwell upon your mind.

let not your thoughts dwell upon separation for one minute,

for such poison works quickly in the mind.

 

i shall not be mad if you forget our anniversaries for people are but liable to forget.

but please forgive me if within me i am hurt a little, just a little,

for i am liable to pain too -- that you mustn’t forget.

 

i shall not be too easy on you as you are not too easy on me,

but on the other hand i will not be too hard.

i shall then be fair as proper.

 

i shall not give you too much of myself

for too much is too little, and too seldom satisfies.

you should therefore not give too much of yourself too.

 

i shall be mostly thinking about you

and when we kiss it shall be ours and ours alone.

you must permit me to fight you sometimes if only to let off steams.

then our making up shall not to be too hard,

and we shall love each other all the more.

 

i shall not hinder you from expressing opinions of me,

for it will make me grow as an individual.

i too shall render you with some such opinions, but seeing at all time i do not cause hurt.

 

i promise to share with you all my life.

my sorrows and my failure shall be yours to share

to ensure you do not fall into the same trap into which i fell.

 

my happiness and joys and all my success shall be a part of you

because you are a part of me.

all my dreams and aspirations shall be yours to share,

and each new dawn we come upon shall be our discovery.

we shall live each day, as one better than the last

and there will be seldom dull moments in our life together.

 

i shall wake up each morning and look forward for the joy of being with you

and each minute shall be happy in the knowledge

that there is a place for us in this wonderful world!
